Use excel as it will be easier to track this way. When your paycheck comes in take 10% and put it in a savings account…pretend this money is not there and now you are left with the 90% to spend. Take a look at what you are spending money on. Are you eating out too much? If so cook more at home or look for cheeper options. Before you go out to bars make a couple drinks at home so only 1 or 2 at the bar and you will still feel good. Do things that don’t cost you money but occupy your time in a satisfying way..perhaps working out? playing an instrument?
My tip is to understand why budgeting/saving often fails and if you avoid the pitfalls when using your system for controlling your money you will make a great success of increasing your wealth.
Here’s the failings!
Failure to prioritise expenses.
Failure to budget practically for normal out-of-pocket expenses like groceries and fuel.
Failure to plan for the unexpected.
Failure to include quarterly or annual expenses.
Spending more money than you pocket.
Failing to understand interest charges on credit card facilities.
With these at the back of your mind you can then work through your situation using the list as a guide and put in your book the money you need to avoid any problems. You may need to get creative on making the money go around if the money is very tight but don’t ignore the problem. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Good luck and when your a multi-millionaire remember me!
I would first look at what you’re spending your money on.
Go through a typical 30 days and write down every cent spent.
Chart it out on paper, in your book or Excel spreadsheet.
You can then sort by priorties and find out where you are spending the most of your income.

Try using online money management tool like moneyStrands; Just like most of these tools, it allows you to define each transactions to fall into a specific category. Once you have added those, it allows you to get a nice birds-eye-view at your spending. Bill reminders is one more added advantage. Also allows you to set budgets for each category – so then you can check to make sure you aren’t overspending. It calculates a rough estimate of your Net Worth for you – it’s accuracy depends on how much info you provide.
