yes its worth it if you want to get into weight training. they can show you how different things work, which is good. definitely a positive thing to do. although it kind of depends on the kind of gym you go to.. if you go to some cheap gym that doesnt have a lot of useful equipment, then youre probably going to end up with a trainer thats making you do bs exercises that arent going to help you very much.
if you go to a more high end gym, or like a golds gym or 24 hour fitness, then youre more likely to end up with a better trainer

It’s worth the money if you don’t know your way around the gym and what equipment is best for which muscles and how to do the weights properly and how many reps and sets to do.
Personally, i got my first personal trainer 4 years ago and i knew nothing. So i had one for 2 or 3 times just so he could set up a routine for me and teach me a few things about my routine. Then i told him i was good to go on my own. My 2nd trainer was 2 years ago and it was the same deal. I needed someone to assess my capabilities and set up a routine for me. Again, it was only the firs 2-3 meetings and then i was on my own. Now though, when i need help…i just go to my fiance. He’s a health and workout nut. He’s enough of a drill sargent and personal trainer for me.
It really depends on your level of exercise and fitness knowledge. In addition, you have to beware of bad personal trainers. There are plenty of great person trainers, but there are also a lot of bad trainers out there too. Let’s look at a quick pros and cons regarding hiring a personal trainer. This is assuming you get a good personal trainer:
Pros:
You learn proper exercise form. This is very important since bad form can lead to injury down the road.
You learn how to organize your training so that you get the most benefits without overtraining.
You get the motivation you need in order to continue to work out.
You have a professional to answer your health and fitness related questions which may come up.
Cons:
Cost can be a little high for some people.
The best way to find a good trainer is to find one who has a lot of happy clients. Of course you shouldn’t dismiss a new trainer who has yet to acquire any clients. All trainers were new at one time or another.
Another thing to look for is a trainer who uses the same exact routine for every client. This is the type of trainer you want to avoid. The laws of individual differences dictates that each routine should be tailored for the client. Canned routines are only used by trainers who are either lazy or knowledgeable.
Finally, when you are looking for a personal trainer, find one you feel comfortable with.
Good luck.
