Great Falls, VA (PRWEB) December 9, 2009
Innovative Green Solutions, LLC, a woman-owned small, understands the needs of our countries to create sustainable solutions in our green construction, transportation projects and facilities management, announced today the award of the contract to build the first two railway bridges in history consists of nearly 100 percent recycled materials.
Innovative Green Solutions identified the opportunity in Fort Eustis just six weeks before the end of the federal government in conversations with the garrison commander and chief engineer with the Fort Eustis. It is in these conversations Fort Eustis first learned of the possibility of a railway bridge in thermoplastic Timbers is nearly 100 percent recycled materials. Centennial Contractors Enterprises, Inc., owner and IDIQ prime contractor for this project, put on a quote that innovative solutions Green received. Innovative Green Solutions can Axion International Holdings, Inc., a manufacturer of recycled thermoplastic, and Parsons Brinckerhoff, a leading bridge design firms in the country. This team has confronted traditional cement and steel models and was not only the lowest bidder, but provided a low total cost of ownership and a higher ecological solution.
Phil Reed, chief engineer of Fort Eustis, said this is the next logical step after step recycled thermoplastic bridges in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was pleased that Fort Eustis has the opportunity to continue the mission of the Army to provide long lasting solutions.
“It was a real feat to get all partners together and respond in short time and witness incredible team spirit,” said Reed. “We could not do without big business partner.”
Vijay Chandra
, PhD, vice president of Parsons Brinckerhoff structures, and John Kim, Ph.D., PE one of the greatest designers of Parson’s Bridge railway, were also pleased with the opportunity to design the first bridge railway composite plastic and work with “… one of the most exciting new structural materials.”
bridges are 40 feet and 80 feet long with a capacity of 130 tons and a Cooper E-60 rating. Bridge structures, including pillars, beams, railway sleepers railway substructure and is made from 100 percent recycled post-consumer and industrial plastics. The thermoplastic material does not rot, rust or corrosion and is impervious to insects. More importantly, it is inert and will not leach harmful chemicals into the environment. This is particularly important at Fort Eustis as the railway bridges are in places dedicated as wetlands.
Office of the Secretary of Defense Policy Board and corrosion monitoring has recently sponsored a demonstration of technological innovation in Fort Bragg prove the technology for HS 25 bridges rated Tanks support M1Abrams. These composite wood quality are the result of decades of research and development of the Rutgers University Center for Advanced Materials from Immiscible Polymer Processing. Rutgers University, in partnership with government and industry was the first to design and patent links of railway composite in 1994. These links are designed to last the life of the rail encourage the return on investment for Fort Eustis. Creosote coated traditional links have a lifespan much shorter and should be disposed of Superfund sites because of their toxicity, leading to increased maintenance costs. Not only do these bridges cost the initial cost, but an independent study conducted by the Ministry of Defence estimates that from 34 to 1 return on investment using thermoplastic materials for the bridges over the traditional wooden bridges were replaced .

About Axion International
Axion International (axionintl.com) is positioned as a supplier of structural importance of alternative infrastructure and building products. Axion operates from a “green” base, developing structural products from recycled materials and industrial plastics that would otherwise be dumped in landfills. The Axion International’s patented technologies, developed in collaboration with scientists at Rutgers University, allow for products that are extremely strong, durable, flexible in their use, and low maintenance. Traditional construction suppliers of wood, steel and concrete can not compete with the flexible design features of structural plastic. Manufactured from consumer and industrial waste plastics, Axion upcycled products are an economical alternative to traditional building materials.
