But you know, I find buying a good expensive laundry soap last longer than buying the cheap ones. You don’t need to use as much
I can tell you, and am using this method myself, Grate Zote’ brand laundry soap or Fels Naptha about half bar then add half cup of Twenty Mule Team Borax and if you can find in the stores half cup of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, and if you can not make this recipe then use this recipe, Grate half bar of Zote’ laundry soap add half cup of Twenty Mule Team Borax, mix together and allow mixture to dry for a few hours then put in a container and keep sealed when not in use, Hint: try to grate soap as fine as you can get it this will make a bigger batch and will last the longest, I use either Pam or a little olive oil on the grater to stop soap from sticking, and also allow the bar of soap to dry out a little before grating as this makes the soap a little hard and easier to grate, otherwise it is too soft and slippery, once you have made your laundry soap you then use three tablespoons to a medium to large load small loads you use only two tablespoons, Note: This mixture will not produce suds; do not expect to see any suds, but it still cleans your clothes very efficiently, my clothes come out very clean and soft and don’t need any softner, towels come up fluffy and soft, you can however add a cup of White Vinegar to the rinse water or just fill the dispenser with vinegar on occasion if you desire this will keep your machine clean and free of any soap residues, I do this also. I have even noticed that my whites come out white when washed in this mixture of Zote’ and borax, I will never go back to detergent anymore as this mixture has been very economical and last a long time and is less expensive, if you look around you can find this soap for about a buck I purchase mine at a grocery liquidator store, and the borax has lasted me months. Make sure you use Hot water to dissolve this mixture before adding clothes then switch to whatever temperature you desire.

Where to find ingredients
Fels-Naptha® Laundry Soap Bar: Made by the Dial Soap
Company, so any store that carries Dial should be able to get it for you. If they carry it, it will be found in the bar soap or laundry soap aisle at your regular supermarket. It is usually on the bottom shelf. If you can’t find it in
your area, try Ivory Soap instead.
Super Washing Soda: Washing Soda can be found on the laundry
detergent aisle of your supermarket. It comes in a 55-ounce yellow box. Baking soda SHOULD NOT be used in place of washing soda. They are completely different products, although they are both made by Arm & Hammer.
Borax: One brand name is 20 Mule Team® Borax. It is also
found on the laundry detergent aisle.
Good Luck !
