Question by radioactivegirl: Any saving tips for me in this Chicago economy?
I am a young married female still in college. My husband and I usually go out to eat for fun as everything else around us seems expensive. We are still slowly paying off some credit cards that were necessary to use. We have to pay off one card we used to go overseas to see my husbands family(we only bought one ticket on it and for other used cash) and we are also paying off our computer and printer we bought on another card plus I have a few medical bills I have to pay off as well. At the moment we live in Chicago where transportation is easily available so we don’t own a car as we cannot even afford it yet and are still renting an apartment where we have to pay our own utilities. So what are some things we can do to save money? So far to save money we use our cell phones and don’t have a land line, we rarely go to the movies, if I am home daytime in winter I wear a sweater and socks to keep warm and don’t turn on heat. As for groceries, I just discovered couponmom.com but I want to know more ways to save on groceries. Any other tips would be appreciated so we can finally move into a bigger apartment to have guests over and finally get a car so we can go to our religious center in the suburbs and I would mainly use the car for groceries and then use the train/bus for everything else. Thanks for tips/suggestions!
I will add more details as they come to my head. As for one thing I know, I never pay full price for clothing and I only buy what I need. if I feel like I have done enough clothes shopping during 1 or 2 trips then I don’t buy more till absolutely necessary perhaps in the next year. I also own the CVS care rewards card but need help on knowing how to use that and the benefits. I live near downtown Chicago if that helps anyone help me better. I usually buy textbooks online to save money and try to sell them back online for as much or more than I bought. I am also convincing my husband to get rid of our cable plan as it costs over $ 80 a month! I told him to ask our internet provider for a deal on combining cable/internet as both are different companies at the moment.

Those credit cards are eating away any good money you earn.
Try not to go out so much.I know thats hard but on a cold night there’s nothing better than a meal indoors.Do you have a food bank nearby. Use that if you can.
Pay off those debts as soon as possible and don’t get into debt on consumer items again. You pay high interest on those types of goods.
